While at work one night in November of 1995, the subject of several
of us going to Las Vegas for a co-worker's 21st birthday the following August came up. This
sounded like a good time to me (except for the prospect of the desert heat in August), but more
than that, there was somewhere else I wanted to see more than Vegas. So I brought up the idea to
my co-workers of us all going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras in February. Well...it seems I missed
my calling and should have gone into sales because the pitch went over so well, that by the time
I got home from work the following morning, I was on the phone with a travel agent getting hotel
prices and information for 10 co-workers and friends.
The city and experience was everything I had imagined it would be, and then some. We spent 4
days and 3 nights there, definitely not enough. I haven't been back since, not by choice mind you.
I do plan on being at Mardi Gras in 2000, so I am counting down the days until then. If you want to
read more about our '96 New Orleans/Mardi Gras trip, see my Mardi
Gras and Stories page.
